ART OF YOGA
JUSTYOG
One cannot predict with accuracy, the exact period of emergence of 'Yog'. in Indian scriptures. Hence it is better not debate of over the matter but discuss so that we can overcome the problems of human life.
The meaning of 'Yog' is to connect. To connect one with himself, to connect the soul (atma) with soul, to connect the soul with self, which would finally result to the union of the soul with the Eternal / Cosmic soul ( Paramatma ). The process by which we can perfectly but easily complete this union is known as 'Justyog'. The base of 'Justyog' is knowledge. Without true knowledge, nothing is possible, not even the cosmic connection or 'Yog'. But on the other hand to get immersed in the sea of knowledge needs the support of 'Yog'.
The period when the philosophy of 'Yog' came into existence, humans started to improve their life with a particular rhythm. In this period only emerged the unparallel way of life known as 'Chatur ashram'. At this point of time the Aryan man divided his life into four stages. If a man passes through all the four stages as prescribed he will certainly be able to enjoy his life fully. Therefore he can truly experience his life and the world connected with it.
These four stages are namely :-
1.) Brahmacharya Ashram.
2.) Garhastha Ashram.
3.) Vanaprastha Ashram.
4.) Sanyasa Ashram.
Enjoying Good Health And Spiritual Progress
One does not require the help of 'Pranayam', 'Yogasana', 'Exercises', or 'Prayer' to lead a healthy life, but requires 'wholesome diet', 'adequate sleep' and 'coitus'. Other than these nothing is necessary for basic mental and physical well being.
The brain of a human being is much more developed and sophisticated than that of any other animate being. And this is the basic criteria that separates humans from other organisms.
Both animals and humans enjoy a healthy life. But the difference is that animals use their senses to enjoy while humans have enjoy both physically and mentally.
Leaving all other creatures humans have advanced day by day and in the present they have been able to create a flourishing human civilization.
Hence from the above we can conclude that the well being of animate beings and humans are completely different.
Therefore to be healthy a man has to enjoy nourishment, adequate sleep and coitus. But since a man enjoys all these both physically and mentally, these three experiences get converted into oceans for a common man, consequently he also cannot solve these eternal mysteries. Therefore to serve these purposes our Ancient Vedic sages have prescribed 'Pranayam', 'Yogasana', 'Exercise', 'Meditation', and 'Spiritual prayers'. If a man can gain proficiency in these, he can get a healthy life. This means we can enjoy our life to the utmost level. Hence we can have a sound and pleasant life which helps us in our spiritual progress.
Distribution Of Relational Values
The term 'relations' is quite nice to hear, but becomes more sweet when it is maintained. A person who maintains all the relations is able to enjoy his complete life and therefore is able to enter in a peaceful life.
If we assume that the only creature to maintain relations it would not be wrong.
From the time immemorial man has behaved and lead life like that of an animal. But with the passage of time man has maintained various relations. Today it is completely visible that unlike man other animals do not understand relational values. So it is impossible for them to maintain.
But the question arises that why humans started to maintain the relations? Though its awkward but it is true that to properly distribute the different values of life, relations were required. As discussed early man has to experience life both mentally and physically. But it is almost impossible to satisfy mental desires of man because as soon as one desire is fulfilled another wish rises in mind. However it is possible to satisfy the physical requirement of a person when due to innumerable mental and physical requirements human existence was at stake, man discovered relations. The emergence of relations helped humans to satisfy their desires in a more competent way.
For instance, in the past, the people slaughtered the cow for the flesh. But when the cow was on the verge of extinction, people discovered all the other facilities the cow could provide within its life span. So they stopped the slaughter of the cow to reach the extreme limits facilities they could get from the cow. Therefore slowly the Hindus started building friendly relation with the cows and thus began the tradition of cow worship.
Only a person who works fruitfully is able to enjoy the sweetness of these relations. But appropriate mental frame and knowledge are also necessary to satisfy the desires. An idle person is unable enjoy these unconditional facilities. An idle person can only show vanity of his power, but cannot realize the facilities of the different relation. The man can only enjoy his life by expressing his self-conceit. So we can say his satisfaction is a synonym for the wastage of resources.
For all creatures satisfaction is the extreme aim of life. And the most appropriate time for gaining this satisfaction our youth. We can sacrifice all our satisfactions but it is impossible for us to compel ourselves from scarifying our youth. Therefore we patiently wait for our youth to come.
The necessary situations and environment for satisfying our desires are provided by the nature itself. And probably the creatures have no complaints regarding these satisfactions.
But humans are the most advanced beings on this earth and so we face various difficulties in the path of satisfaction only by the means of its senses. But if humans could satisfy their desires by their senses they could have been to reach the extreme point of satisfaction. But humans give importance to mental desires whose complete satisfactions are impossible. This is because it is impossible to assume the mental desires of a man.
We can only imagine basic human desires by comparing them with ours. But this also cannot be done up to perfection. Neither it can be said whether one will be able to do it or not. Therefore this is a complete unknown topic. But with the reference to this context our experienced ancient vedic sages with the power of Yog, have discovered a few processes to fulfill our mental and physical desires. But the effectiveness of these processes also cannot be guaranteed, though it is true that fulfillment of desires are possible by these prescribed methods.
Pranayam, Yogasan & Gyan ( Knowledge )
One can have a well built and ravishing body by the means of Yogasan and Pranayam. And by the further application of Gyan, one can achieve a perfect body to satisfy all its desires. By the help of this perfect body. He can reach the extreme limits of Bhog. Hence he will be able to maintain a youthful life for longest possible period. Now the question that arises is what actually are these Pranayam, Yogasan and which can help us to enjoy our life.
